Can Drug Use Affect Libido?
Having a satisfying sex life is important to women, as well as men. With all the ups and downs that almost all women go through with their libido (sexual desire), knowing some of the causes of a fluctuating libido, or a low female libido, is important.
Sometimes it may come as a surprise that the things you decide to use for recreation may affect your sex life. Whether it is alcohol or drug abuse, using substances that are mind or body altering, may have a great affect on your libido. Some women think that having a drink or two may help them relax and enjoy sex more, but that can backfire very easily. Alcohol is a depressant, so is more than likely to make sexual satisfaction less than likely.
By the same token, when drugs are used, the affect may be one that is less than desirable. If the drug of choice is a depressant, it can make it so that you are not easily aroused, and may rob you of your libido. Alcohol, heroin, and many other depressants can depress your sexual responses and make it difficult to become aroused to orgasm. Alcohol may not have a negative effect on your libido if used in moderation. A drink or two may actually help you relax more and enjoy a sexual encounter.
Overindulging, getting drunk, and using alcohol regularly may have an effect that will be long-lasting.
Some people who use recreational drugs think that using a stimulant will help them enjoy sex more, but in all reality the opposite is more often true. Cocaine, Ecstasy, and amphetamines that are considered stimulants, can actually cause orgasm problems, possibly lasting longer than the immediate sexual experience. Using recreational drugs as a female libido enhancer is not recommended. It can also bring you more problems than you might want to handle.
Prescription and over-the-counter drugs can also cause problems with libido and other areas of female sexuality. High blood pressure medications, antidepressants, and even birth control pills can have a negative effect on libido for women. If you are taking any medications and have begun experiencing libido or other sexual dysfunction problems, you may want to talk to your doctor about changing medications.
Medications and drugs do not make good female libido enhancers. There are, however, herbal products, aphrodisiacs and creams that may help increase your libido. If you decide to use recreational drugs, or if you begin taking a new medication, check the possible reactions you may experience with it. If there are any possible sexual side effects, avoid using it if at all possible. Female libido enhancers are not something to expect when you use alcohol or recreational drugs.
Dealing with the effect of drugs on your sexuality may be much more difficult if it lasts longer than the immediate experience. Keeping your libido at a normal level may mean avoiding those things that may have a lasting effect. Using drugs can effect your libido, possibly more than you might want to deal with.
